People needing a safe and supportive environment during withdrawal from alcohol and/or other drugs, as well as gambling stabilization.
Individuals requesting admission attend the centre between 7:30-8:00 am daily. Most clients refer themselves; however, Renfrew accepts referrals from many sources such as family, friends, hospitals, physicians, AA and a wide range of community and government agencies. Clients usually remain at the centre for five days, but their stay can be shorter or longer depending on the severity of the withdrawal.
On admission, an assessment of the client’s condition is completed by a nurse and client care assistant. When clients are physically stable, they are provided with information on:
- alcohol and other drug abuse/dependency
- effects of addiction on the body
- treatment agencies and services
- nutrition
- relapse prevention
- tobacco cessation
- other relevant information
Our addiction counsellors provide this service, which involves assessment and referral to treatment and other relevant programs. Clients have the opportunity to participate in self-help groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and Cocaine Anonymous.
