Poundmaker’s Lodge Treatment Centres (PLTC) was established in 1973 and prides itself on its 52-year history of providing exceptional addiction and mental health treatment services. PLTC offers an on-site medical detox, a 42-day adult residential treatment program, a specialized 90-day treatment program for young adults, and Iskwew Healing Lodge, a women’s aftercare facility.
Programs are conducted with an emphasis on respect for Indigenous natural laws and traditional values. Through ceremonies guided by Elders, clients connect with culture, spirituality, and themselves.
The Medicine Wheel teaches that in order to live a healthy life, balance must be achieved in the four dimensions of self: mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual. It is our belief that addiction disrupts these dimensions and that recovery is most effective through a holistic approach. Our program combines traditional Indigenous spirituality with 12-Step programs (AA, NA, GA), informational lectures, and group therapy to help clients restore balance to their lives. While our program focuses on Indigenous culture and spirituality, its principles are universal. Clients from all cultures, traditions, and faiths are welcome.
Day Program
Our Day Program offers professional, empathetic support for those seeking recovery from addiction while remaining connected to their daily lives. Recognizing that not everyone can access inpatient treatment, this program provides essential outpatient services grounded in an Indigenous perspective. Through integrating cultural knowledge, clinical practices, and community connection, it honours Indigenous identity and healing, fostering belonging and meaningful transformation. Open to everyone ages 18 and older, the program runs Monday to Friday over three weeks and supports the Alberta Recovery Model through an Indigenous lens.
